Australian Marine LifeA scientific book for fish identification, covering 1200 temperate Australian species. Australian Marine Life contains underwater photography (not illustrations) and is a comprehensive resource when it comes to species identification in temperate waters of New South Wales and the Tasman Sea.

Next to the bigger, more prominent species, this volume includes information about bacteria and cryptic little dwellers. It contains a good section on marine plants and covers the bulk of what you can expect in Sydney. I always use this to look up unknown local marine life, and it hasn’t let me down so far. Uses scientific classification and a combined index of scientific and common names.
