Tasseled Scorpionfish (Scorpaenopsis oxycephala)This Tasseled Scorpionfish (Scorpaenopsis oxycephala) was sitting inbetween ‘leafs’ of Pavona Coral (Pavona sp.), seemingly unimpressed by divers passing by. Given that Scorpionfish are amongst the most toxic species of fish in the ocean, they have good reason not to worry – nobody likes to get close to them because of the venomous dorsal spines. Lucky for divers, these animals are not aggressive and will flee if provoked.

I was lucky enough to get a chance photographing this one from only about 1m away with the 60mm macro lens. Camera settings f/16, 1/60s, ISO 200.

Post processing includes level and black point adjustment in Aperture and burning the corners of the image for a slight vignette effect. All colors are left unchanged.
