SS Yongala Wreck

If you ever have a chance to go to Townsville, Queensland, don’t miss the chance to dive the wreck of the SS Yongala (if you have an interest in shipwrecks, I also recommend a follow up visit to the Townsville Maritime Museum). It is ranked amongst the top dives in the world and for good reason. Located in moderate depths of 15-30m, this wreck is easily accessible and has plenty of fish – as a matter of fact it is absolutely swarming with large marine life, providing excellent opportunities for wide angle photography.
Matt from Salt Scuba Diving arranged for us to go out there on twin cylinders, giving me some much appreciated extra bottom time to take pictures in 25-30m and also took this photo of Rob and me doing exercises for the TDI decompression procedures course he ran for us.
Photo taken in 27m depth with natural light, unedited (for a change!), camera settings, ISO 200, f/8 for 1/160s, courtesy of Matt McPherson.
