Red Tube SpongeIt’s great when you have a model in the water you can work with. Dale and myself did quite a few shots together while in Wakatobi and it can be as easy as just hovering steadily while the other one’s camera is pointed at you, without the need for complicated hand signals.

Here the main attraction is the bright red Tube Sponge with the yellow feather star (Crinoidea) attached to it, but I’m glad Dale is in the photo otherwise the top third of the frame would be boring. He is also far enough away from my camera not to be hit by the flash, so he easily blends into the background while still adding to the composition. This worked out quite effortlessly as he immediately seemed to understand was I was trying to do when I assumed shooting position in front of the sponge.

Camera settings: 10-24mm wide angle lens @10mm, f/11, 1/60s, ISO 200, adjusted for red and yellow saturation and levels. Selective brightness and Foliage filter applied through Color Efex Pro.
