This image is an overlay of two shots and as such not a “real” underwater photo, which is a first for me. I photographed the background on a dive at Magic Point, Sydney last Sunday and used a stock photo of an unidentified Jellyfish to overlay it with.
The background photo is pretty much left unchanged, so all the sunrays are really there and was photographed just underneath the surface around 12pm. The subject has been “bent” in Photoshop with the liquify filter to fit into the composition and I used a dodge brush to model some of the highlights on the Jelly’s surface. The subject is then merged in Photoshop with 80% opacity to blend seamlessly into the water.
Camera settings for the background: Nikon D300, Nikon 10.5mm fisheye f/16 for 1/125, ISO 200.
