Today for a different take on the Sydney or White’s seahorse (Hippocampus whitei). I have left in the backscatter on purpose, because it adds to the composition in this instance and turned the photo black and white. If you’re wondering about the species, no they’re not white, they are just named after John White, surgeon general to the first fleet in Australia, but it’s a nice double dip anyway :)
I managed to get slightly below the subject, and ended up with this perspective where the seahorse appears to glide over the “winter themed” bottom. This photo really wasn’t anything special in color, but I find the black&white version quite surreal. Camera settings: Nikon D300, Nikon 60mm macro, f/18 for 1/320s, ISO 200. Post processed for levels and converted to black&white.
