Half-banded SeaperchAutumn weather is coming to Sydney slowly but surely. The waters are getting cooler and calmer and hopefully the visibility will get better again soon. This weekend, the drysuit is coming out of summer retirement for shooting and I’m going for wide-angle again.

This is the last photo from the previous weekend with the snoots on, which Irene identified as a Half-banded Seaperch (Hypoplectrodes macculochi). The idea here was to wait until it swims over the piece of sponge (luck) and flash with the snoot from the left. Backscatter in this photo was heinous to begin with and it took me a while to use a clone brush in Photoshop to bring it down to viewable levels, but I like the results. The darker blue water is toned down in Aperture but I hope to get this color again in winter without post processing I’m just not a huge fan of green.

Camera settings: Nikon D300, Tokina 10-17mm, f/8, 1/250s, ISO200
