Sunday turned out to be an excellent dive day at Magic Point. I was out there to shoot an assignment and finally got the Grey Nurse Sharks (Carcharias taurus) that I had been hunting for the last year on camera. There are only an estimated 200-300 of these animals left in Australia, and they are protected by NSW maritime.
Despite the fierce look, these sharks are completely harmless bottom feeders and won’t bite. This is a juvenile animal, about 1.5 – 2m long, which can be commonly found here.
Camera settings: Nikon D300, 10.5mm fisheye, f/13 for 1/60s ISO 200. Converted to black&white in Silver Efex Pro with a red filter, then overlayed with a graduated neutral density filter and vignette to burn the edges. I used Nik Dfine to sharpen this image and Photoshop to remove unwanted dirt particles.
