Enough freshwater, here’s the first shot from the actual coral sea :) This was taken at Palm Island, about an hour by boat north-east of Townsville.
Very unusual to find the feather star (Crinoidea) attached like this in blue water, so great photo opportunity and I also got extremely lucky with the soft coral fans behind it. A good thing about the Tokina 10-17mm lens is that you can get close enough to blow up the subject frame filling, and the crinoid doesn’t mind the barrel distortion of the fisheye lens either. I tried at f/8 and f/11 but opted for f/11 to get some extra depth of field.
Camera settings: Nikon D300, Tokina 10-17mm, f/11 for 1/160s, ISO 200. Post processed for levels, white-balance and exposure in Aperture.
