Unfortunately I still haven’t gotten any new images or dives done for the past 3 weeks, so I’m working off stock photos. The good news is there are plenty of these I always wanted to publish. This Cuttlefish (Sepia sp.) ist just small enough (about 20cm) to do a portrait photo with the 60mm macro lens.
Photo taken in Chowder Bay during our weekly night dive, in 10m depth and mediocre visibility. The key to avoid backscatter here is to remain close enough and positioning the flash left and directly above the subject. Scott Gietler has a few useful tips including photos of this setup.
Camera settings: Nikon D300, Nikon 60mm macro, f/16 for 1/250s, ISO 200. Post processed with Color Efex Pro for Aperture using a vignette and sepia colored filter.
