Another dive in Sydney, another nosy Blue Groper (Achoerodus viridis). I would go as far as recommending these for test shots, you can’t shake ‘em, they just keep coming back whatever you do.
Here we have an available light photo, the flash died on this dive at Maroubra, so had to make due with what i could get. I turned green water to blue and accentuated the eyes in Photoshop. Some brushwork was done around the fish lips to cover up local unsharpness. A big plus for this otherwise unspectacular photo is the composition. If only all fish would voluntarily pass you by on a perfect diagonal trajectory to the frame while looking at the camera! The quote “If your pictures aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough” by Robert Capa comes to mind. Composition saves an otherwise average photo.
Camera settings: Nikon D300, Tokina 10-17mm, f/8, 1/60s, ISO 200.
