A Black Reef Leatherjacket (Eubalichtys bucephalus) hovering in midwater. I often see these in pairs, and a quick look into Australian Marine Life, Graham Edgar confirms they “cohabitat”. The white/yellow eye makes them easy to identify and they are moderately common in Sydney’s blue water dive sites. Photographically they are nice because of the color contrast and their tendency to stay well above the ground.
Camera settings: Nikon D300, Tokina 10-17mm, f/8 for 1/250s, ISO 200. Post processed for levels, saturation and exposure. Grotesque amounts of backscatter in here that I had to remove with a clone stamp and the dust and scratches filter in Photoshop because I pointed my flash heads the wrong way, but worth salvaging.
