A while back in November, I posted a similar shot on one of these cleaner shrimp (Periclimenes holthuisi), but I just couldn’t help repeating myself with this follow-up version, where the subject stands out much better. The dive site and story are the same as in the old post, so I’m just going to stick with the technical data for this photo.
I used the Nikon 60mm macro lens, camera set to ISO 200, f/16 and 1/60s shutter speed in Aperture priority mode. Out of many many photos attempted, this is one of the few select that was sharp at this shutter speed and I switched to manual mode and 1/250s afterwards to compensate. I only wish it hadn’t taken me 50 plus attempts in 20m depth and over 100 bar of air to learn this :)
Like in the previous photo, the colors have been left mostly unchanged, with only vignetting, level adjustments and a minor saturation boost applied. I used the Graduated Neutral Density filter (grey filter) in Color Efex Pro for Aperture to darken the upper left corner, which creates a better backdrop for the subject.
